Wings over Pittsburgh

We have spent many years working on air bases and so it was only natural that we went to see the Wings over Pittsburgh air show last Saturday. I was mostly interested in seeing the C-123K Provider "Thunder Pig" from the Air Heritage Museum in Beaver County. My article about this fascinating museum and restoration facility appeared in the July/August 2010 issue of Pennsylvania Magazine.
Of course, I was also thrilled to see another nose art by Moon artist Donna Pitaro on a KC-135. My photo feature about her awesome nose art was also published in Pennsylvania Magazine a while ago.
From Cessnas not much bigger than an SUV to a B-52, there were planes of all sizes and ages on display. Hubby, of course, knows all their names, so it was quite educational. We especially liked the aerial stunts, particularly a pilot who drew a heart into the air. We were about ready to leave when a B-2 Spirit (a stealth plane) flew by. And then we headed home to watch the Thunderbirds from our front lawn...

Published Again

Last summer, I sold three photo features in quick succession. The wait between contract and publication is always a long one. Finally, yesterday I received the January/February 2009 issue of Pennsylvania Magazine with my four-page article "Beaks to Bills." It looks very nice and includes some of my favorite bird photos.
Now I am waiting for the other two articles to be published. They feature, of course, more birds. One highlights the festival of the birds at Presque Isle, which will take place again next May. The other article will be published in Pursuits Magazine, a magazine issued by the Pennsylvania Tourism Office.
Do you see a pattern here? Well, I'm now working on an idea that has nothing to do with birds, just to break the monotony...

News

February is finally over and once again, I have to say, "good riddance." It has been one of the worst months in my life and the reason is not because I am now eligible for the AARP. I would like to move my birthday into summer because not only did it pour buckets on my recent birthday, but then it snowed so hard that we couldn't even go out and have a nice dinner. Family problems and the weather are weighing down on me and my only consolation is that I am now busy with several projects.
I currently have an exhibit at the Mt. Lebanon library which will be up until March 31. Yesterday, I received the March/April edition of Pennsylvania Magazine and found that I have a full-page photo of an Eastern Fox Squirrel in it. Next week, I am giving a talk at the Moon Garden Club. The subject is how to attract birds to your garden. I will, of course, also cover butterflies (but not squirrels since they come anyway) and hope it will be enlightening for everybody.
I also have an appointment at the National Aviary and hope that I can offer my photos in their gift shop. In addition to that, I am working on another story idea.
